Scope note
Members of the species that are the largest among anteaters, best known in the tropical grasslands of Venezuela, although it was formerly found in the lowland forests of Central America. They are about four feet in length exclusive of the tail, with long shaggy grey fur with a black breast band and white stripe on the shoulder, powerful claws, and long slender sticky tongue with which to lick up ants a termites.
